The Asia Cup 2025 15-member squad selection is complete, and the results are shocking. While Shubman Gill bags the role of vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal are out of the game.
The BCCI has announced India’s 15-member T20I squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 on 19th August 2025. This time the selection process has focused more on strategy with the intent to create an unbeatable team. However, the exclusion of seasoned campaigners Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal has left the fans astonished.
India's T20I squad for the Asia Cup 2025 includes Suryakumar Yadav as captain and Shubman Gill as vice-captain. The pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is also making a comeback to India’s T20I squad.
The Test skipper Shubman Gill is back in India’s T20 team as a vice-captain. This is a power move considering his groundbreaking performance in the recent Test series in England and the 2025 IPL with over 750 runs. Gill hasn’t played a T20 international since July 2024, but his appointment marks a notable reinforcement.
The selectors have brought Jasprit Bumrah back in the game, strengthening India’s pace attack ahead of the Asia Cup. Despite concerns over his workload and fitness, Bumrah confirmed his availability for the tournament.
Big names are left out of India’s T20I squad, leaving fans surprised. Shreyas Iyer, who scored 604 runs with a strike rate of 175, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 559 runs at a strike rate of 159.71 in the IPL, were not selected. Ajit Agarkar explained that the team have many good batsmen, and they had to balance the squad. Jaiswal was put on the standby list because Abhishek Sharma offers skills as both a batsman and a bowler.
